Centre provides assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, for implementation of Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1995 and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Protection of Atrocities) Act, 1989. Over 17.17 crore were released to States/Union Territories on the basis of their proposals during the current financial year so far. There is no specific provision under the SCs and STs (POA) Act to set up Exclusive Special Courts. However, for speedy trial and disposal of cases, States/UTs have been requested to set up Exclusive Special Courts. Eight Exclusive Special Courts have been set up in Andhra Pradesh, 11 courts in Bihar, 7 courts in Chhatisgarh, 10 courts in Gujarat, 7 courts in Karnataka, 29 courts in Madhya Pradesh , 17 courts in Rajasthan, 4 courts in Tamil Nadu and 40 courts in Uttar Pradesh which usually account for about 90 per cent of total number of cases of atrocities.

This was stated by the Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
