Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) has organized a four-day Directors Certification Programme on Corporate Governance with the support of the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
Inaugurating the programme here today Shri Sontosh Mohan Dev, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises said that corporate governance is extremely important for development and growth of any corporate entity. It is more so for public sector where public funds and public aspirations are involved. Further, transparency and accountability that are essential ingredients of any managerial system assume critical importance in case of PSEs. He said that the Government was committed to make public sector strong and effective to realize its inherent potential. Following the recommendations of Dr. Arjun Sengupta Committee, Government granted greater financial and functional powers to Navratna, Miniratna and other profit making PSEs, he added.
Shri Priyadarshi Thakur, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, in his Keynote address said that PSEs cannot afford to be slack in their business perspective as they are expected to provide standard quality and value for money products and services even to sectors, where there might not be active participation of private sector. The Government is keen in empowering the PSEs to help them become truly global entities and chart a new higher growth trajectory, he added.
Chairman, SCOPE and Chairman IOC, Shri Sarthak Behuria and Director General of SCOPE, Dr.S.M.Dewan also spoke on this occasion.
