Shri J.C.Kala an officer of Indian Forest Service TN:68 has taken over as the new Director General (Forests) and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests here today. Prior to this appointment, Shri Kala was serving as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu for about four years. He has also served in the Ministry of Environment and Forests as Joint Secretary earlier wherein he was looking after the River Cleaning Programme, Pollution Control and Management of Hazardous substances.
Shri Kala who obtained his Ph.D in “Economics of Environment” from the University of Madras has also served as Deputy Inspector General of Forests in the Ministry of Environment and Forests wherein he was looking after externally aided forestry projects in the country and formulated National Forestry Action Plan.
