senior central health officials in mumbai to assess the situtation

A high level team headed by Director General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have joined other central teams in Mumbai today and are holding discussions with the state authorities on the prevailing health situation in the state in the wake of unprecedented rains.

As already reported yesterday, a high level team headed by the Director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Director of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme are already in Mumbai assisting the State Government in instituting public health measures.

Six additional central teams of physicians and public health experts are being constituted to be sent to Mumbai at short notice. The NICD and ICMR are providing laboratory support for diagnosis of suspected cases of leptospirosis at Mumbai. The officers of the DGHS are in constant touch with the State health authorities to render any assistance required.

All the critical essential drugs requisitioned by State Government have been dispatched. 500 chloroscopes and Laptospirosis diagnostic kits have been supplied. Further demands of the State Government for certain drugs and diagnostic kits are also being met.

The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss is constantly reviewing the health situation in the state with the senior officials. Health education activities including awareness creation through visual media and the public address system have been intensified.
