About 44 lakh beedi workers, 63 thousand cine workers and about 74 thousand non-coal mine workers and their families are availing benefits of social security and welfare under various Welfare Fund Schemes for unorganised sector workers. The expenditure incurred under all these funds was Rs. 108.59 crore during 2004-05. An allocation of Rs. 118.96 crore have been made for these Schemes during the current financial year. The Labour and Employment Minister, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao in a written reply in the Lok Sabha stated this today.
In written reply to another question Sh. Chandrasekhar Rao said that about 2.53 lakh agricultural workers have been covered under the Krishi Shramik Samajik Suraksha Yojna, 2001 during the first phase of three years. The Scheme was launched on 1st July 2001 on pilot basis in 50 districts and implemented through the Life Insurance Corporation of India, LIC. The Scheme envisages providing life-cum-accident insurance, money back, pension and superannuuation benefits. The agricultural workers between 18 and 50 years of age could enter the scheme. The Scheme has since been closed. However, the Scheme will continue for existing members.
