The Sub-group of the Planning Commission’s Working Group on Sports and Youth Affairs for the formulation of Tenth Five Year Plan has reviewed all the schemes of the Sports Authority India (SAI). Major recommendations related to conversion of the National Sports Talent Contest Scheme (NSTC) into non-residential centers, change of age group in certain groups like Swimming and Gymnastics, enhancing norms for diet selection and monitoring of the training by a committee of experts etc. Most of the recommendations have been incorporated while amending the schemes of SAI. The changes are expected to result in improved performance in the long term.
This information was given by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
