Lok Sabha

The revenue from sale of stamp duty in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi has increased from 452.58 crore for 2003-04 to Rs.673.04 crore in 2004-05. The people of Delhi are facing no difficulty in purchasing the stamp papers as the stamp papers are easily accessible from the Delhi Treasury. For the further convenience of people, the Government has decided to sale the stamp papers from selected branches of some banks.

The increase in the revenue happened due to more property transactions, easy accessibility/transparency of the system, reduced rate of stamp duty for women in registering the conveyance deeds, levy of stamp duty on registration of General Power of Attorney other than blood relations since June, 2004 and compulsory registration of Agreements of Sale.

This information was given by the Minister of State for law and Justice, Shri K. Venkatapathy in a written reply to the question from Shri Manoj Kumar in the Lok Sabha today.
