railways earn rs. 11338.88 crores freight revenue during april-july 2005

Indian Railways have earned Rs. 11338.88 crores of revenue freight during the first four months of the current financial year ending July 2005 as compared to Rs 9618.34 crores during the corresponding period of last year.

The earnings from Railways freight during the month of July, 2005 was Rs. 2773.26 crores from 51.37 million tonnes (MTs) of revenue freight as compared to Rs. 2471.15 crore from 49.66 million tonnes of such traffic during the corresponding period of the previous year i.e July, 2004, thereby registering an increase of 12.2% in rupee terms and nearly 3.4% in terms of million tonnes.

Of the total earnings, Rs. 1135.81 crore came from transportation of 22.45 million tonnes of coal, followed by Rs. 143.72 crore from 4.19 million tonnes of raw material to steel plants, Rs. 132.72 crore came from 1.27 million tonne finished iron & steel, Rs. 191.34 crore from 3.50 million tonnes iron ore for exports, Rs. 190.66 crore from 4.02 million tonnes of cement, Rs. 258.77 crore from 3.72 million tonne of foodgrains, Rs. 126.14 crore from 2.51 million tonnes of fertilizers, Rs. 251.67 crore from 2.87 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), and Rs. 342.45 crore from 6.84 million tonnes of other goods.
