The Department of Chemicals and Fertilizers has decided to revive the BCPL. During the review meeting of the performance of three Public Sector Undertakings viz. Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL), Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) and Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited (HOCL) with the Chief Executives chaired by Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Steel, it was decided the detailed proposal to revive the BCPL as recommended by BIFR be moved to Cabinet quickly.

After Cabinet approval of the Scheme, the BCPL will have no accumulative losses and net worth of the Company could stand positive. Significantly, BCPL has increased the production, sales and prescribed productivity performance parameters. The net worth of the Company has become positive during 2004-2005 compared to the negative net worth of previous year. There is also a proposal to reduce the excess flab for which Government will have to fund a VRS Scheme costing about Rs.10 crores.

The Minister expressed happiness with the performance achieved by BCPL and he also agreed to consider allocation of additional funds to support the future expansion projects of the company.
