The Minister of Rural Development, Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, today reviewed the progress of implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) with the concerned Secretaries of 15 States. The performance of these 15 States has not been up to the mark in the current financial year.
These States are Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttaranchal. These States have not been able to claim their allotted funds under PMGSY for the last six years. The following Table indicates the allocation till the current financial year and the amount released/spent by these States.

The State Secretaries have been advised to fully utilize their allocated funds to claim further amounts by December this year. These States have been asked to build up additional capacity and train their functionaries. They have also been asked to finalise the core network and district rural road plan on priority.
The Minister said by the end of 2009, all villages with more than 1000 population in the plain areas and over 500 population in the hilly and tribal areas must be connected by all-weather roads. The State Governments must finalise their plans accordingly.
The Minister also reviewed the status of the quality of the roads constructed under PMGSY.
The Minister assured the Secretaries of the North-Eastern States of all assistance in the work provided funds are properly utilized.
