Lok Sabha

The Committee on Infrastructure under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Prime Minister had discussed certain issues pertaining to Railway sector in its fourth meeting. In the meeting, no direction has been given for preparation of any plan to increase private sector participation. However, a decision was taken for preparation in consultation with Planning Commission a scheme for allowing operators other than CONCOR (a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways) in the movement of containers. This decision can enhance private sector participation. Ministry of Railways have granted a study to M/s. RITES Ltd. in this regard.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri R. Velu in written reply to a question by Shri Hansraj G. Ahir in Lok Sabha today.
