Keeping the tradition on the eve of Independence Day, 28 eminent scholars of classical languages were honoured and awarded for their meritorious contribution to the classical language belong to. Of these awardees, 18 scholars belong to Sanskrit whereas 2 Pali/Prakrit and 4 each to Arabic and Persian languages.
The award of Certificate of Honour is given every year on the eve of Independence Day by the President of India to the scholars as lifetime achievement in their field for keeping the tradition of these languages alive. The award includes a monetary grant of Rs. 50,000/- per annum for life, apart from a Sanad and a shawl.

In addition to the above awards, Maharishi Badrayn Vyas Samman is given to 6 young scholars of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian who have made a breakthrough in the in the inter-disciplinary studies involving contribution of these languages or the ancient Indian wisdom to the process of synergy between modernity and tradition. This award carries a one time cash award of Rs. 1 lakh along with a sanad and a shawl for the recipients. It is also presented by the President of India.
