The Union Government provided financial assistance of Rs. 49.86 lakhs to voluntary organizations engaged in preservation and promotion of tribal culture in the country during 2004-05. A total of 480 NGOs applied for grant during the year. Of these, the maximum of 138 NGOs were from Orissa, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 54 and West Bengal 52.
