Union Minister for Power, Shri P. M. Sayeed met with the Union Minister for Agriculture, Shri Sharad Pawar today and discussed the problems the agriculture sector is facing in Lakshadweep. He requested the Agriculture Minister to give a special package for development of horticulture sector in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep as agriculture and horticulture are the main areas of employment in the island.
Shri Pawar agreed to send a team of the Ministry of Agriculture to study the problems of the island and will also give workable suggestions so that the agricultural sector can be further developed and more employment opportunities can be created. The Minister also agreed to provide special package for creating infrastructure for coconut processing. Agriculture Minister promised to visit the island and launch some projects.
