Outsourcing of some of the activities have been undertaken by Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries in some of its mines to build up additional capacity of production, to avoid initial capital investment and to reduce cost of operations. Major activities outsourced are production of coal in some mines and isolated patches, removal of overburden, transport of coal and sand. The amount paid by CIL during 2004-05 was Rs.765.55 crore against Rs.466.61 crore in 2003-04 and Rs.440.01 crore in 2002-03.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
