nominations invited for awards in housing, urban employment and poverty alleviation - press note

Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation has instituted awards to encourage various stakeholders involved in housing, urban employment and poverty alleviation in the country, especially those who have done commendable work in areas of innovative and cost effective technology, micro-finance, housing for weaker sections and slum redevelopment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for filing an entry, the contestant should be engaged in a work relating to one or more of the following: best practices in housing, urban employment & poverty alleviation; promotion of housing technology resulting in cheap and durable houses for the economically poor sections of the society including innovations; construction of large number of houses at competitive prices for the urban poor/weaker sections; development of best design of houses resulting in optimum use of space, maximum light and ventilation, adoption of cost-effective disaster resistant technology, meeting the norms of local bye-laws; innovative schemes for upliftment of urban poor with the objective of alleviating their poverty; innovative & result oriented urban employment schemes for the poor; extending micro finance to the urban poor for employment/housing/ consumption; slum improvement/redevelopment/relocation projects; and community participation/self help by NGOs/CBOs/SHGs/DWCUA Groups.

Procedure for submitting nominations:

The nominations may be submitted in accordance with procedure laid down as below:

In the case of Government Departments, PSUs, Cooperatives, Autonomous Bodies and the Public Sector, the nominations must be sent in the prescribed format. The Head of the Organisations will fill up the nomination forms in all respects, in triplicate, and route it through the Administrative Central Ministry/respective State Government Department, along with enclosures and with their recommendation to the Joint Secretary (H), Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. An advance copy may however be endorsed by the applicant to the Joint Secretary (H), Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. In the case of Private sector and other Organisations, the Chief Executive of the organisation will fill up the nomination forms in all respects in triplicate and send it to the Joint Secretary (H), Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. In the case of individuals, nomination forms in triplicate may be sent to the Joint Secretary (H), Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.

All correspondence must be addressed to Joint Secretary (Housing), Ministry of Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation, 1st Floor, ‘C’ Wing, Nirman Bhawan, Maulana Azad Road, New Delhi – 11.
