National Rail Museum will celebrate Van Mahotsav here on 28.8.2005 in association with Loins Club of India. Chairman, Railway Board will be the chief guest on this occasion. On this occasion saplings of different varieties will be planted in the Museum and five hundred saplings will be distributed free to the visitors, courtesy Forest Department, Government of NCT Delhi. On this occasion Jatropha a bio-diesel plant will also be planted. The seeds of this plant are used for extracting oil that can be used in automobiles replacing diesel. Bio-diesel fuels can be an important alternate source for our future energy needs. Indian Railways is conducing trails on the diesel locomotives using bio-diesels.
A Book Review competing will be held for the children from Class VI to Class XII that will be organized by the National Book Trust. Entry for Book Review Competition is free. A cultural programme will be organized in association with Northern Railway Bharat Scouts & Guide.
National Rail Museum is the repository of invaluable relies of Indias Rail Heritage. It possesses valuable vintage steam locomotives, coaches, wagons Maharajas Saloons, smaller artifacts like manuscripts of British agents orders, old metal passes, badges, various working models etc. The place provides a wholesome mix of education, nostalgia, fun and entertainment.
