The National Productivity Awards for 2002-03 and 2003-04 were presented here today. These awards are given away every year in 8 sub-sectors namely, cereal (flour milling) processing industries, marine and sea food processing, consumer edible products, dairy processing industries, both large and small, meat processing industries, food processing training centers and fruit and vegetable processing industries. The award model has been developed by the National Productivity Council to boost the productivity of food processing industries and to recognize outstanding achievements of the organizations and units of this sector. The National Productivity Awards for the Food Processing Sector has been sponsored by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and implemented by the National Productivity Council since 1985-86.
Giving away the awards, the Minister of Food Processing Industries, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, said the country has immense potential in food processing particularly in the North Eastern States, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. They grow a large variety of fruits which can be processed to benefit the horticulturists and consumers alike. The Centre is doing its best to help the food processing sector, said Shri Sahai.
