With a view to rehabilitate child labour engaged in hazardous occupations and processes, the Government is implementing National Child labour Project Scheme in 250 districts of the country across 21 States, including Uttar Pradesh. Under the said scheme, special schools are run for the child workers to provide bridge education before they are mainstreamed into the regular school education system. The facilities provided in these schools include :
Ø Formal/Non-formal education;
Ø Vocational Training;
Ø Supplementary nutrition @ Rs. 5/- per child;
Ø Stipend @ Rs. 100/- per month to children withdrawn from employment;
Ø Health care facilities.
The National Child Labour Project Scheme has been extended to 41 districts of Uttar Pradesh. In addition, a similar project, which is a jointly funded project of Government of India and Government of United States of America named INDUS Project is being implemented in five districts of the State.
