Public sector National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has been asked to prepare short, medium and long term translatable action plans on production, sales, profitability, value addition and expansion programmes. In a performance review meeting held here today, the Mines Secretary, Shri A.K.D. Jadhav stressed on preparing these corporate plans for 5, 10 and 15 years along with a vision document, to facilitate monitoring its progress.
Outlining the achievements of the company the acting CMD, Shri C.R. Pradhan said NALCO's production of bauxite, alumina hydrate and aluminium during April-June, 2005 exceeded their respective targets. The sales turnover of the company during the first quarter of 2005-06 was Rs.1071.70 crore against a target of Rs.999.57 crore and net profit was Rs.280.56 crore against a target of Rs.259.36 crore. The gross margin and profit before tax also exceeded the target.
The company has bagged recently the excellence and Udyog Rattan Awards. It signed the agreement with MECON in May for consultancy services of second phase expansion for captive power plant and steam generation plant. It organised a state level Quality Circle convention and Kisan mela on fly ash utilisation.
The progress of NALCOs plans to set up a smelter in the Middle-East / Far-East linked to refinery and bauxite either in Andhra Pradesh (Jalera) or the Western coast (Maharashtra, Karanataka or Goa deposits) was discussed. Shri Pradhan said NALCO has already hired services of M/s. Engineering India Limited (EIL) for preparing a pre-feasibility report.
