The mineral production in June 2005 recorded a growth of 5.86 per cent as compared to that of the corresponding month of previous year. The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during the month was Rs.5,592 crore. The contribution of coal was the highest at Rs. 2,025 crore (36 per cent). Next in the order of importance were: petroleum (crude) Rs.1,557 crore, natural gas (utilised) Rs.747 crore, iron ore Rs.607 crore, lignite Rs.187 crore and limestone Rs.143 crore. These six minerals together contributed about 94 per cent of the total value of mineral production in June 2005.

Production levels of important minerals in the month were : coal 288 lakh tonnes, lignite 26 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilized) 2,579 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 28 lakh tonnes, bauxite 1,107 thousand tonnes, chromite 323 thousand tonnes, copper conc. 11 thousand tonnes, gold 279 kg., iron ore 133 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 8 thousand tonnes, manganese ore 196 thousand tonnes, zinc conc. 77 thousand tonnes, apatite & phosphorite 110 thousand tonnes, dolomite 366 thousand tonnes, limestone 138 lakh tonnes and magnesite 34 thousand tonnes.

During the month, the output of bauxite increased by 39.8 per cent, manganese ore by 9.1 per cent, gold 3.3 per cent and a nominal increase was observed in the output of apatite & phosphorite. However, the output of lead conc. decreased by 25 per cent, lignite 19.2 per cent, limestone 8.2 per cent, coal 7.4 per cent, magnesite 5.9 per cent, iron ore 5.4 per cent, zinc conc. 5.2 per cent, chromite 3.7 per cent, copper conc. 3.4 per cent, natural gas (utilised) 2.9 per cent, dolomite 1.7 per cent and petroleum (crude) 1.2 per cent.
