Public sector Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), Nagpur, during the first quarter of this fiscal, carried out 45,811 meters (m) of drilling against a target of 40,000 m and 2,095 m developmental mining against a target of 1,063 m. This information was given today by the CMD of the Company, Shri Rajneesh Gupta in a performance review meeting taken by the Secretary, Mines, Shri A.K.D. Jadhav. Shri Gupta said that first quarter gross income at Rs.18.98 crore has been 16 per cent more than the target and the company earned a net profit of 42 lakh.
The Corporation, during the quarter has established 1,095 million tonnes of coal and 1,731 million tonnes of lignite reserves. It submitted 15 exploration reports including 4 on environmental and remote sensing studies. It carried out 50 sq. km. of geological mapping and surveyed 66 sq. km. for lignite deposits in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The CMD briefed that the Government of Chhattisgarh has approved grant of mining lease for bauxite covering an area of 399.508 hectares in Serengdag block of Surguja district. Besides, it was granted prospecting licence for prospecting of copper at Singhana block, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan over an area of 836 hectares.
During these 3 months, the company has received 14 work orders of Rs2.96 crore. In July, it has received work order to the tune of Rs.6.64 crore from Hindustan Zinc Limited and Hindustan Copper Limited. The Secretary asked MECL to prepare project-wise drilling information sheets and compile data on benefits accrued to its clients.
