During the visit of Japanese Prime Minister to India in April 2005, the two Prime Ministers signed a Joint Statement on April 29, 2005 in which India and Japan agreed in principle to resume the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) Programme in India. Under this programme, Japanese volunteers come to India for training and enhancement of skills of Indian nationals in designated fields of activities. Notes to this effect have been exchanged between Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Embassy of Japan.
