Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy inaugurated an Exhibition titled Dandi March here today. Mounted by the National Archives of India to commemorate 75th anniversary of the historic march, the Exhibition is a tribute to the indomitable spirit and genius of Gandhiji. The Exhibition will be open to the public till 23rd of next month.
Gandhiji led 78 devoted followers from the Sabarmati Ashram on 12 March, 1930. They covered a distance of 241 miles, finally reaching Dandi on 5 April, 1930. In the morning of 6 April 1930, a lump of natural salt was picked up by Gandhiji and his followers to symbolically and publicly violate the oppressive Salt Law of British Rule.
