The rate of inflation based upon the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers witnessed an increase of 0.74 percentage points during July 2005. It went up from 3.32% in June 2005 to 4.06% in July 2005. . In July 2005, the inflation rate was 3.19 %.
The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for July 2005 (base 1982-100) went up by nine points to stand at 538 (five hundred thirty eight) points. The increase is mainly due to rise in the prices of Rice, Wheat Flour, Arhar Dal, Fresh Fish, Moong Dal, Ground Nut Oil, Onions, Vegetables & Fruits, Soft coke etc.
The Rise/Fall in index varied from centre to centre. In 14 centres, the index decreased between 1 to 7 points and in 2 centres it remained constant whereas in 64 centres it recorded an increase of 1 to 26 points when compared to the previous month.
During the month, Bhavnagar centre experienced the maximum increase of 26 points mainly due to rise in prices of Arhar Dal, Moong Dal, Channa Dal, Groundnut oil, Goat Meat, Vegetables and Fruits, Sugar, Gur and increase in Housing Index of 45th Round. On the other hand, Chennai Centre experienced a maximum decrease of 7 points mainly on account of fall in prices of Rice, Gingelly oil, Goat Meat, Dry Chillies, Kerosene Oil etc.
The index in respect of six main centres for October 2004 stood at the following level:-
