Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved the setting up of Chamera Hydro Electric Project Stage III (231 MW) in Himachal Pradesh by NHPC with an estimated cost of Rs.1405.63 crores. The cost includes Interest During Construction and Financing Charges of Rs.119.66 crores at Feb.’2005 price level with a debt equity ratio of 70:30. The completion time of the project is approximately 5 years from the date of its commencement.

The Chamera Hydro Electric Project Stage III is a run-of-the-river scheme on river Ravi in Chamba district of Himachal Prdesh. Project involves construction of a 68 meter high concrete gravity dam near Kharamukh village and an underground powerhouse on right bank of river at Dharwala village.

This would enable to reduce the power shortage in the Northern Region.
