The Home Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan on terrorism and drug trafficking are being held here on August 29-30, 2005 These are parts of the on-going composite dialogue process between the two countries. The last Home Secretary level talks were held in August last year in Islamabad.

During the talks, the Indian side will raise security concerns and urge upon the Pakistani side to widen cooperation in combating the menace of terrorism in deference to the objectives set out by the leaders of both countries in the joint statement issued in New Delhi on April 18, 2005 during the visit of President Musharaff.

Efforts will be made to expedite the finalisation and signing of the MoU between the two agencies to have a regular institutional mechanism in place on drug control matters. The need for such an MoU was agreed upon by both sides at the last Home Secretary level talks held in Islamabad.

Shri V.K. Duggal, Union Home Secretary has welcomed the visit of Syed Kamal Shah, Interior Secretary, Government of Pakistan, and looks forward to meeting him. He is quite confident that the talks would be both positive and fruitful.
