The total cold storage capacity in India as of December 31, 2004 has been estimated at above one crore ninety five lakh metric tonnes. It took three years to build this capacity.
Cold storages are essential for preserving perishables like vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, milk and different types of processed food. These are integral to all food processing units and food parks.
