The curtain came down on year-long Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Lalit Kala Akademi here today. The Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat formally closed the celebrations with an exhibition of contemporary art Resonance- curated by K.T Ravindran. On this occasion, the Vice President of India also conferred the Lalit Kala Akademi fellowship on renowned art critic Keshav Malik, besides releasing the music CD specially brought out to mark the occasion.
In its remarks, Shri Shekhawat said that the various cultural activities like festivals, exhibitions, special art workshops for the under-privileged children, organized during the Golden Jubilee year, were an enriching experience. Art is instrumental in the growth of cultural values and positive social attitudes, he added. The Vice President lauded the efforts of the Akademi in facilitating the reach of art and culture to the grass root levels.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy in his remarks said that Lalit Kala Akademi rejuvenated and strengthened the diverse cultural practices of our country. By elevating Indian art to a global status, the Akademi has striven to promote art and culture to a high pedestal, he said. The Minister added that XI Triennale India, organized by the Akademi, provided a rare opportunity of being face to face with the multifarious latest trends in the present day art world. The Minister said, art and aesthetics is an inalienable part of the national perception and the Akademi has always striven to uphold this process by taking art to the people and for the sake of the people.
