12 hospitals have been taken up by the Employees State Insurance Corporation, ESIC, so far under the Model Hospital Scheme to run them as model hospitals. Under the Scheme, one ESI hospital in each state is proposed to be taken over by the ESIC.

The ESIC has also set up the Scheme of Revolving Fund to provide advance payments for super specialty treatment to Insured persons of ESI and their families. Besides, the scope of Revolving Fund has been extended to make the payments of drugs and dressings, equipments and annual maintenance contracts procured by the State governments.

Ceiling on reimbursement of medical care to state governments has been increased from Rs. 750/- to Rs. 900/- per Insured Person family unit per annum with effect from 1st April 2005.

The issue of duality control in delivery of health care to Insured Persons is under discussion with the General Purpose Medical Care Sub-Committee.

The Labour and Employment Minister, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao stated this today in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
