As per the Revised Estimates 2004-05, the receipts under Education cess is estimated at Rs. 5010 crore. The receipts from the cess are to be utilized exclusively for Elementary Education, including Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Mid-Day Meal Scheme. Allocations to States are not being made separately against the cess but released under the individual schemes related to Elementary Education in accordance with the guidelines of such schemes. Budget Estimates of 2005-06 assumes Rs. 6975 crore as receipts from Education cess.
