Government has taken a decision to grant dual citizenship to all persons of Indian origin having foreign citizenship except Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals.
Citizenship (Amendment) Ordinance, 2005 was promulgated on 28.6.2005 to extend the scope of Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) to Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) of all countries except Pakistan and Bangladesh as long as their countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.
PIOs who are registered as OCI under the Citizenship Act, 1955 will be granted a multi-purpose, multiple entry life long visa to visit India.
