creation of posts in the national manufacturing competitiveness council

Thursday, August 18, 2005

The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for creation of 32 posts and also gave ex-post facto approval for creation of the post of Member Secretary (Secretary level) by upgrading it.

This would help in meeting the objectives of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) which would provide recommendation to Government to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector.

Staff for NMCC shall be mostly drawn from the industry but some staff could also be drawn from the Government on deputation. Staff drawn from Government will be eligible for central pool of Government accommodation from the date of their appointment and would also be eligible for medical and other facilities as permissible, during the period of their deputation with the NMCC. Those drawn from industry would be entitled to HRA and other facilities as per Government rules.

The establishment of NMCC was proposed by the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) in its Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for providing a continuing forum for policy dialogue to energise and sustain the growth of the manufacturing industry like food processing, textiles and garments, engineering, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, capital goods, leather and IT hardware.
