The Government had decided to construct 1,98,881 houses for the families of defence service personnel in the Cantonments/Military Stations. The work is proposed to be completed, in four phases, under the ‘Married Accommodation Project’ at a total estimated cost of Rs. 17,358 crores.
In Phase-I of the married accommodation project, a total number of 61,658 Dwelling Units will be constructed. The construction work under Phase-I has already started at many sites and this phase is likely to be completed by 2005-06. The amount estimated to be spent by the Government on Phase-I of the project is Rs. 5478.73 crores.
This information was given by the Defence Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee in a written reply to Shrimati Kiran Maheshwari and Shri Haribhau Rathod in Lok Sabha today.
