committee to check railway passenger amenities reconstituted

The Ministry of Railways has reconstituted the Passenger Amenities Committee at the national level to check the passenger amenities provided at railway stations and on trains. The Committee under the Chairmanship of Shri Md. Ilyas Hussain, Ex. Minister, Government of Bihar, will be for a period of two years and will carry out regular checks to ensure proper implementation of various facilities and comforts being provided to passengers by Indian Railways, such as;



a) General cleanliness and environmental condition.

b) Drinking water arrangements

c) Facilities provided for dissemination of information to the passengers, like enquiry offices, public address system, indicator boards etc.

d) Provision of lights, fans and other electrical amenities.

e) Provision and maintenance of public conveniences like public lavatories, bathrooms, retiring rooms and waiting halls.

f) Provision of such conveniences as benches on platforms, wheel chairs, stretchers, luggage trolleys, etc.

g) Reservation and booking in carriages and at station premises.

h) Security of passengers in carriages and at station premises.

i) Ensuring courtesy to passengers.

Shri Uday Kant Chaudhary, Advocate, High Court of Patna will function as a Member to the Committee and Deputy Director, Railway Claims Tribunal, Railway Board will be the Secretary of the Committee. The Traffic Commercial Directorate, Railways Board will be the nodal Directorate interacting with the Committee and processing its various recommendations for timely implementation.
