A section of the media has reported that the Centre has given green signal for reimposition of ban on Maoists in Andhra Pradesh. It is clarified that the Maoist organizations are already banned under the Central Act i.e. Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. It is within the competence of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to ban these organizations under the State law. The question of the Centre giving green signal to the State in this regard, therefore, does not arise.
