cil keeps up its profit trend

The Coal India Limited (CIL) earned the highest ever profit of Rs.6,959 crore (provisional) in 2004-05 which was Rs.4,889 crore a year before. Except 2000-01, the company has been posting profit during the last decade. Loss for the year 2000-01 was mainly due to provision of Rs.3,031.66 crore during the year towards arrears of pay, pursuant to upward revision in salaries and wages of staff, officers and workers.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
