CBI investigation in CEE-2005 scam in final stage

Three accused, Pankaj Dahiya, Lalit Hooda and Himanshu Sharma, arrested earlier in connection with the malpractice in CEE-2005 Examination were produced before the designated court at Tis Hazari Courts Delhi today after expiry of their CBI custody. While Pankaj Dahiya and Lalit Hooda were remanded to CBI custody till 08.08.2005, Himanshu Sharma was granted interim bail till 16.08.2005 on medical grounds.

During their interrogation, it was revealed that unfair means and copying in the CCE-2005 Exam. was done in a very systematic and professional manner. Two question booklet series were made available by snatching from the Examination Centre. One question booklet was snatched by Sh. Lalit Hooda from the Hindu college and the other question booklet was snatched by another accomplice of these accused persons from the examination centre at Rohini. During the course of investigation, the accused, Pankaj Dahiya identified two places in Delhi where the question papers were got solved with the help of 10 to 12 Students of IIT at each place. These IITians were arranged by the accused, Pankaj Dahiya and one Surender Gahlot after paying them hefty amounts. After getting the paper solved, the SMS of the same was prepared, exchanged between all the accused and then forwarded to the candidates at their examination centre who copied the same and marked the answers in the answer-sheet. Investigation by CBI further revealed that there was at least one more place somewhere in Trans-Yamuna area which was used for solving another question booklet series. All the accused in the present case have been identified and their hideouts searched leading to the recovery of several incriminating documents.
