Rajya Sabha

The bandwidth is required for connecting various service providers' networks, inter-circle connectivity of networks, international connectivity of networks and point to point as well as point to multipoint requirements of individuals, business houses etc. It can be provided through various routes and media. For this purpose various types of licences have been granted and these licencees plan their network based on the requirement and business plan. Therefore, the concept of bandwidth requirement in the country may not be easily quantifiable.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is continuously augmenting the International Internet Bandwidth to meet the demand of increasing customer base of broadband as well as Internet Service. As on 3.8.2005, the International Internet bandwidth with BSNL is 1161.5 Mbps.

This was stated by Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, today in the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to the question by Shri K. Rama Mohana Rao.
