The Government had constituted two Selection Committees for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Awards for the year 2004, Dhyan Chand Award for the year 2005 and Dronacharya Award for the year 2004. The Committee for deciding Awardees for the first three Awards mentioned above was chaired by Shri Geet Sethi and met on the13th August 2005. The Committee for deciding Awardees for the Dronacharya Awards met on the 18th August 2005 under the Chairmanship of Shri G.S. Randhawa. Both the Committees submitted the list of their respective Awardees to the Government. Accordingly, the Government will confer the awards on 29th August 2005 to the selected awardees. The awards will be given away by the President of India, Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in a ceremony at Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapati Bhawan. Following is the list of Awardees:-
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2004
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is given for spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of Sports by a sportsperson in a year. This award carries an amount of Rs.5 lakhs. The Awardee for the 2004 is:
Lt. Col. Rajya Vardhan Singh Rathore (Shooting) Dronacharya Awards 2004
Dronacharya Award is intended to honour Coaches who have done outstanding and meritorious work on a consistent basis and enabled Sportspersons to excel in International Events. This award carries an amount of Rs.3 lakhs.
For the year 2004 this award is being conferred upon the following persons: -
Shri Arvind Savur (Billiards) Ms. Sunita Sharma (Cricket) Shri Cyrus Poncha (Squash) Arjuna Awards 2004
The objective of Arjuna Award is to recognize outstanding achievement in the field of Sports at International level. The award carries an amount of Rs.3 lakhs.
For the year 2004, this award is being conferred upon the following sportspersons:

The objective of Dhyan Chand Award is to honour those Sportspersons who have contributed to sports by their performance and continue to contribute to promotion of sports even after retirement from their active sporting career. This award carries an amount of Rs.3 lakhs.
