The All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base 1986-87 = 100) increased by five points and six points respectively during July 2005 to stand at 350 points for Agricultural Labourers and 353 points for Rural Labourers.
The rise and fall in index varied from state to state. In case of Agricultural Labourers 19 states reflected an increase in indices ranging between 1 to 10 points while in one state the indices remained constant.
In case of Rural Labourers also 19 states reflected an increase ranging between 2 to 11 points while in one state the indices remained constant.
Manipur experienced the sharpest increase of 10 points in case of Agricultural Labourers and 11 points in case of Rural Labourers. The increase has been mainly due to increase in prices of rice, pea dal, dry chillies and vegetables and fruits, sugar, beedi, pan leaf and firewood.
Haryana figured at the top of the index table both for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers with 370 points and 371 points respectively. Manipur remained at the bottom of the index for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers with 322 points and 323 points respectively.
Point to point rate of inflation based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 2.68% and 2.66% respectively in June 2005 to 3.55% and 3.82% respectively in July 2005. Respective rates of inflation during July, 2004 were 2.11% and 1.80%
