Air connectivity has improved substantially with the commissioning of four medium ATR aircrafts in the Region with considerable financial support from the Centre, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri P.R. Kyndiah informed the Rajya Sabha today.
In a written answer to Ms Hema Malini, the Minister said an outlay of Rs.144.73 crore has been approved for Transport and Communication Sector in Tenth Plan of North Eastern Council (NEC) in addition to special allocation of Rs.450 crores made in the Union Budget 2005-06 of the Department of Road Transport and Highways for the NER.
The efforts are on for accelerating the development works for A320/B737-800 type aircraft have been completed for Lilabari, Imphal, Agartala, Dimapur and Tejpur airports. The works for upgradation of dibrugarh airport and Silchar Defence airport have been awarded.
In a separate written answer to Mr Matilal Sarkar, the Minister clarified that no project proposals are lying pending with NEC for more than one year. Project proposals are at times referred back to the project proponents including the State Governments for modification and improvement. Some projects proposals are referred to the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region.
Processing of project proposals for approvals and sanctions is continuous process. In addition, the system of processing of project proposals is also continuously streamlined both in the NEC and Doner so as to avoid undue delay in issue of approvals and sanctions.
