The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the signing of the Indo-Nepal Agreement on cooperation in the fields of culture and sports.

The Agreement provides a broad framework to develop activities of mutual cooperation in cultural relations and sports between India and Nepal in the following fields :-

i) To mutually exchange their knowledge with regard to arts, literature, culture and sports.

ii) To collaborate in the areas of visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, language, archaeology and architecture.

iii) To facilitate exchange of artists and encourage translation and publication of other country’s literature.

iv) To encourage cooperation in protection, conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

v) To encourage cooperation among cultural and research institutions of the two countries, museums, archives, and art academies.

vi) To envisage organization of sports competitions and exchange of information in the field of sports.

vii) To promote Films and Theatre by interaction and exchange of material – programmes to promote Films.

viii) To exchange of information and expertise in the field of archaeology and grant of Scholarships for students’ etc.
