198 Children were found working in Zari and Embroidery units by the Delhi Government during the special campaign conducted from April to July this year. Prosecution proceedings against the offending employers have already been initiated by the Government of Delhi under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. The Act prohibits employment of children in 13 hazardous occupations and 57 hazardous processes. The employers found engaging children in these occupations and processes are liable to be prosecuted under the Act. The Act also provides for regulation of working conditions for children in non-hazardous occupations. This includes fixing working hours, period of rest, etc. Conducting raids and inspections to detect cases of violations of the provisions of the Act is the regular exercise carried out by the respective state governments.

The Labour and Employment Minister, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao stated this today in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
