The official level deliberations prior to the 25th Conference of State and UT Ministers of Information and Cinematography (SIMCON) were held today. The discussions were held under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Navin B. Chawla. The recommendations emerging from these discussions will be presented for consideration at the Ministers’ Conference, which begins tomorrow.
Officers from 29 States and Union Territories deliberated on the major issues related to the broadcasting, film and information issues. Sensitizing authorized officers of the State Government on acts, rules and codes on the content of television channels and appointment of complaint redressal officers to check violation of Cable Television Network Regulation Act: tackling piracy with the existing provisions and rationalization of entertainment tax were the broad issues which came under focus during the day long interaction.
