The 27th meeting of the National Sanctioning Committee (NSSC) held under the chairmanship of Secretary, Drinking Water Supply has approved Total Sanitation Campaign(TSC) Projects in many states all over the country. The Committee also reviewed the implementation of Total Sanitation Campaign Projects and emphasized that time bound implementation of TSC programme should take place and effective monitoring system be put in place.

The proposals sent by Government of Assam for Kokrajhar district; Chhattisgarh for Korba district; Gujarat for Patan district; Jharkhand for Deoghar district; Karnataka for 15 districts; Rajasthan for Banswara, Chittorgarh, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jodhpur, Tonk, Udaipur districts; West Bengal for Darjeeling district; Bihar for Jamui district and Uttaranchal for Rudraprayag district were considered in the meeting and approved. The total financial outlay approved for all 26 new projects is Rs. 318.5 crore out of which the share of Central Government, State and community share is Rs. 201.24 crore, Rs. 72.95 crore and Rs. 44.41 crore respectively. While approving for community sanitary complexes in Rudraprayag district of Uttaranchal, the Committee felt that such facilities if required should be extended to tourist places falling in rural areas in all districts of the country. This was in response to a proposal from Government of Uttaranchal mentioning that they have conducted detailed survey for construction of community toilets in ‘yatra’ route in this district and there is a requirement of 40 such community complexes and the unit of each such complex would be Rs. 1.5 lakh per complex.

The proposal from Government of Bihar to release additional fund of Rs. 9.65 crore to Jamui district for conducting Base Line Survey was also approved by the Committee.
