Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), a subordinate organization of the Mines Ministry prepares the mineral maps of leasehold and freehold areas with forest overlays in respect of individual minerals to supplement the efforts of maintaining the National Mineral Inventory as an aid in planning mineral production on regional basis. During the year 2003-04, 100 multi-mineral maps on a scale of 1:50,000 in respect of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and part of Jharkhand states were prepared.
During the year 2004-05 (upto December, 2004), preparation of 100 multi-mineral maps of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and part of Jharkhand states on a scale of 1:50,000 were in progress. In this connection, digitization of 50 maps was completed and another 50 maps in progress. During the year 2005-06, multi-mineral maps with forest overlays in respect of Karnataka and part of Andhra Pradesh will be taken up in collaboration with Geological Survey of India and Forest Survey of India. During the year, 100 multi-mineral maps with forest overlays on a scale of 1:50,000 will be prepared.
Besides, IBM brings out monographs on individual minerals under the Series 'Minerals Facts and Problems' and Bulletins on important technical subjects. During the year 2003-04, monograph on limestone and dolomite was released. Updating of Directory of Mineral Consumers in India was also taken up. During the 2004-05 (upto December 2004), monograph on chromite was released and updating of Directory of Mineral Consumers in India was in progress. Manual of Procedure of Chemical and Instrumental Analysis of ores, minerals, ore dressing products and environmental samples was released and a bulletin on Environmental Aspects in Mining areas was under printing. Besides, five bulletins were at various stages of completion.
