The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing of Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and USA in the field of transportation and science & technology. India has a massive programme of upgrading the existing national highways network over and above National Highways Development Programme (NHDP) Phase I & II throughout the country with the help of private sector participation on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, on toll or annuity basis.
In the past, India has entered into MoUs with Canada & France. USA also have extensive experience in successfully developing toll-based expressways and highways network projects. India will utilize the experience of USA in developing highways and expressways of international standards in India.
MoC will be signed between India and USA during U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mr. Norman Y. Mineta’s visit to India from April 13 to 15, 2005.
