LOK SABHA SPEAKER TO DELIVER D.P.KOHLI MEMORIAL LECTURE

The Central Bureau of Investigation is celebrating its 42nd birth anniversary this year. On this occasion a number of activities have been planned. The premier investigative agency is organizing the 6th D.P.Kohli Memorial Lecture in honour of its founding Director at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on the 28th April, 2005. The Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Somnath Chatterjee will be the chief guest at the function and deliver the keynote address on "Parliamentary Democracy in India-Present & Future". The Union Minister of State for Personnel, P.G. & Pensions, Shri Suresh Pachauri and the Central Vigilance Commissioner, Shri P.Sankar would also participate. Shri Pachauri will give away the "D.P.Kohli Memorial Award" to the Best Detective Constable of CBI in the function. Shri Chatterjee will present mementos to the former Directors of CBI who have been invited to the function. A photo exhibition depicting different facets of the investigating agency since its inception would be on display on the 28th April at Vigyan Bhawan.

Late Shri D.P. Kohli was the first Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation after it was formed on the 1st April, 1963 and remained the head of the investigating agency till the 1st May, 1968. During his tenure as the Director, Shri Kohli put the CBI on a firm footing by extending its activities and converting it into an efficient instrument of criminal investigation. Shri Kohli was a visionary who sowed the seeds for the development of the CBI into a strong and vibrant organization. Thanks to his vision and efforts that CBI today enjoys reputation of professionalism and fairness and has the confidence of all sections of society and the Government. As a tribute to its founder Director, CBI has been organising the memorial lecture since the year 2000 to which eminent speakers are invited to speak on topical issues.
