The rate of inflation based upon the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers remained unchanged during March 2005 at the previous months level of 4.17%. In March 2005, the inflation rate was 3.49 %.
The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for March 2005 (base 1982-100) also remained stationary at 525 (five hundred twenty five) points.
The Rise/Fall in index varied from centre to centre. In 26 centres, the index decreased between 1 to 9 points and in 9 centres it remained constant whereas in remaining 35 centres it recorded an increase of 1 to 10 points when compared to the previous month.
During the month, Ludhiana and Srinagar centres experienced the maximum increase of 10 points. The increase is mainly due to rise in prices of Moong Dal, Mustard Oil, Rice, Wheat, Vegetables and Fruits. Darjeeling Centre experienced a maximum decrease of 9 points. The decrease is mainly due to the fall in prices of Rice, Wheat Atta, Mustard Oil, Onions, vegetables and fruits etc.
The index in respect of six main centres for March 2005 stood at the following level: -
